Drive Thru

To think it all started back in 1936
Selling burgers to the masses who needed a hunger fix
Appealing to the people’s need to be satisfied
A hamburger chocolate shake and an order of
French fries

Mothers at the factory working the assembly line
Father’s at the mill and he’s working on some overtime
It’s five fifteen and it’s easier to go and dine
At the fast food joint where it’s always dinner time,
It’s dinner time

Baby’s in the back seat crying out his eyes
Mother’s in the front seat fit to be tied
Brother’s got a bellyache, sister does too
Daddy can we go, daddy can we go, daddy can we go through the drive thru?

And to think it all started back in 1936
Only now we have the choice between a burger or some fish and chips
Or maybe just an ordinary slice of some pizza pie
You can get it while it’s hot at the local fast food drive by,
You just drive by.

Father’s in the car and he’s talking on his business line
Mother’s at the office and she never gets home on time
It’s six fifteen and easier to go and dine
At the fast food joint where it’s always dinner time,
It’s dinner time

Baby’s in the back seat crying out his eyes Mother’s in the front seat fit to be tied
Brother’s got a bellyache, sister does too
Daddy can we go, daddy can we go, daddy can we go through the drive thru?

Homemade meatloaf, sweet potatoe pie,
You can’t get these if you just drive by
Pot roast, barbecued chicken, fried steak,
I want these things but I just can’t,
I can’t wait,  I can’t wait

Cause Baby’s in the back seat crying out his eyes,
Mother’s in the front seat fit to be tied
Brother’s got a bellyache, sister does too
Daddy can we go, daddy can we go, daddy can we go through the drive thru?
Daddy can we go, daddy can we go, daddy can we go through the drive thru?

And to think it all started back in 1930
And to think it all started back in 1930
And to think it all started back in 1936
